The mission of Stafford Municipal Court is to be impartial and timely in the disposition of all cases and to serve the public in a courteous and efficient manner.
Municipal Court Department Processes
The Municipal Court Department processes court cases where an allegation of city code violation has been made or a defendant is accused of a Class C misdemeanor within the territorial city limits. Such violations are generally punishable by fines up to $500, but fines of up to $2,000 may be assessed for violations relating to fire safety, zoning, public health, and sanitation. The Municipal Court Judge has the authority to issue warrants for the apprehension and arrest of persons charged with the commission of an offense, issue search warrants, and emergency protection orders, hold preliminary hearings, discharge an accused, or remand the accused to jail and set bail. Class C misdemeanors (crimes punishable by a maximum fine of $500) include public intoxication, theft less than $100, disorderly conduct, minor in possession of alcohol, possession of drug paraphernalia, and minor in possession of tobacco products.
