As we each adjust to what we once perceived as normal, so is the City. We are moving forward and focusing on continuing to retain our standards and look at areas to modify, streamline, and advance for a more efficient operation.
To start off, I would like to recognize the city staff, they continue to amaze me with their work ethic and dedication to do the best job they can for our citizens.
- Currently, the City and SMSD are in full budget mode.
- Starting in June, the City of Stafford and the Stafford Municipal School District will begin budget workshops.
- The city recently awarded a contract to start our annual street maintenance program in Phase One on concrete streets. We hope to complete this phase by the end of the year. The next Phase we will be looking into the potential of concrete crack sealing, asphalt, repair/replacement, along with concrete panel leveling.
- Salary adjustments for all our sworn personnel in the Police and Fire Department have been made as Phase One. After analyzing what the market in surrounding entities were doing, Council approved by a 6-1 vote these increases. Phase Two will be to conduct a market analysis in reference to the remaining city employees in order keep the City competitive.
- We continue to add new members to our great City team. I would like to welcome our new City Secretary Ms. Roxanne Benitez and Mr. Jose Pastrana our new Public Works /Development Service Director! Both individuals bring multiple years of government experience to our City.
- The new Public Works Development Services department will provide more efficiency and virtual one stop shopping for new developments. Economic Development Services will now be a component of this department.

I want to close with observing how strong and resilient Stafford continues to be. This community embraces its diversity and continues to build on that diversity. Joining together with SMSD, the City and community, WE ARE ONE!
Best,
Mayor Cecil Willis

Nothing like home for Jalen Pitre

"We are bursting with pride for our very own SMSD Alumni Jalen Pitre from the Class of 2017, who was drafted by the Houston Texans in round 2 of the #NFLDraft this past weekend. He is the first student from Stafford MSD to be drafted in the early rounds by the NFL, and many folks from Stafford have been calling it for years," SMSD said.
