City of Stafford Newsletter June 2023

June 2023                                  City of Stafford                         Vol 40 Issue 7

Message from the Mayor

I wish to thank the citizens of Stafford for allowing me the honor of serving and representing this great community. The election is over, and the people have spoken. It is now time to unite behind Mayor-Elect Ken Mathew and work together for the betterment of Stafford. We must stay focused, working together for the common cause, to become better and stronger. Now let’s move forward towards Stafford’s great future. I intend to do everything I can to facilitate this effort. I also want to congratulate our new council members.

Time has flown by since our last edition. The election season has passed, school is out, and summer has arrived. With summer here, we must seriously begin planning for all hurricane conditions that may arise. The time to prepare is NOW.

The City, along with SMSD, are in full budget preparation mode. Unfortunately, the State legislature did not do us or any of the school districts any favors. Elected officials, jointly with the community, must make some tough financial decisions.

Soon, we will be initiating our annual street maintenance contract. We have made great strides over the past two years in upgrading the mobility conditions within the City.

I would like to acknowledge the great City Staff and thank all of them for all that they do for each and every one of us on a daily basis.

To the citizens of Stafford, I thank each of you for your support and commitment to this great City of ours.

Best,
Cecil

Stafford Economic Development Corporation News

This SEDC report is very exciting. The 7-Eleven on Avenue E has finally opened. We have Laredo Taco and Raise the Roost restaurants within the gas station business. This is going to bring a tremendous uplift in our city revenue and I want to report that Jack’s Grocery/Chevron station on the island is doing very well and also getting some real good business activity.

On The Grid, the SEDC has just invested $1.3 million to re-adjust the infrastructure to permit us to have a big name business to locate in our city, that’s going to bring in $675,000 worth of revenue. The fast food restaurants at The Grid are also moving forward. I will make announcements as they develop, the multi-home units are progressing, and that should be the last part of the multi-family units in The Grid.
The license plate reading program is also moving forward. We are in the progress of allocating money for the Drainage program that we are going to implement which will take at least five years to complete.

Wen Guerra
President, SEDC
