Office of Professional Standards & Training
The Stafford Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards and Training (OPS) plays a vital role in ensuring the department operates with professionalism, transparency, and accountability. Staffed by a Captain, Lieutenant, Administrative Sergeant, Administrative Officer, and an Administrative Communications Coordinator, OPS provides comprehensive oversight and guidance across multiple operational and administrative functions. Together, this leadership team supports both sworn and civilian personnel while upholding the highest standards of service.
OPS oversees several key units that directly contribute to the safety and well-being of the Stafford community. These include the School Resource Officers and a Sergeant assigned to the Stafford Municipal School District, who work daily to promote safe learning environments and build positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff. OPS also supervises the department’s Traffic Division, which consists of two specialized Traffic Units focused on roadway safety, collision reduction, and traffic enforcement throughout the city.
In addition to operational oversight, OPS manages critical administrative and professional development responsibilities essential to the department’s continued success. These duties include recruiting and hiring qualified applicants, coordinating training programs, and conducting thorough background investigations for all new personnel. OPS is also responsible for ensuring departmental compliance with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) and administering the Texas Police Chiefs Association Accreditation Program, reinforcing accountability and adherence to statewide best practices.
OPS further oversees internal affairs investigations, departmental community projects, and social media outreach, ensuring transparency, integrity, and effective communication with the public. Through its broad scope of responsibilities, the Office of Professional Standards and Training serves as the foundation for professional development, ethical oversight, and community engagement within the Stafford Police Department, helping the agency meet the evolving needs of a diverse and growing community.
