Mosquito Control
Stafford attempts to control the mosquito population by vector spraying between the hours of 7pm and 7am, weather permitting. The entire City is sprayed once a week from May through October. The following neighborhood communities are included in this spray:
- Arcott Place
- Crestmont Village
- Dove Country
- Grove West
- Kingsway
- Missouri City Estates
- Promenade
- Southmeadow
- Stafford Run
- Sugar Creek
- Vaccaro Manor
In addition to the spraying application, the City treats standing water in the rights-of-way and storm sewers with special tablets that kill the mosquito larvae. For additional information concerning mosquito control, call the Street Department at 281-208-6920.
It is important to note that while these measures might reduce the mosquito population and threat of vectorborne illness, it is still vital that individuals take precautionary measures to promote personal and communal health.
Please consider adhering to these helpful tips below if they apply to your situation:
- Drain water from bottles, tires, buckets, cans, flowerpots in your environment.
- Empty, cover, or turn over swimming pools.
- Cover or turn boats upside down.
- Change water in birdbaths every few days.
- Stock ornamental ponds with mosquito-eating fish.
- Repair leaky plumbing and outside faucets.
- Repair window and door screens.
- Clean gutters regularly.
- Don’t wash lawn clippings into storm sewers.
- Wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts when outdoors.
- Use mosquito repellent when outdoors.
- Treat lawns with personal protective spray when needed.
- Use flying insect spray to control mosquitoes indoors.
